Amanda Schuermann is a visual artist, designer, and educator who graduated with her BFA in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in December 2011 and her MFA from the Dynamic Media Institute at Mass Art in May 2017. Amanda has been teaching art, design, photography, and film for over eight years and has a background in multi-media installation design. Her experience as both an educator and designer informed her work at DMI. As a teacher, Amanda’s goal is to engage young people in meaningful arts learning and give them creative confidence. To do this, she believes that they need to be provided with opportunities to play, experiment, and be imperfect.
At DMI, she focused on developing dynamic experiences where her participants were given a chance to play while experiencing various creative processes that encouraged imperfection. By designing her experiences to produce imperfect outcomes, she eliminated people’s self-conscious about making something look perfect so that they could enjoy the process and gain the courage to create. Amanda is a visual digital arts teacher at Monomoy Regional High School and plans to incorporate her studies in dynamic media, play, and creative confidence in her professional practice as an educator and designer alike. |
